Angel Martinez, Head Golf Coach

Angel Martinez comes to Life Pacific with 10 years of golf coaching experience. Angel began coaching in January 2008 with The First Tee of Greater Pasadena. What drew Angel to coaching was the life skills education that The First Tee imparts to students through the game of golf. For 20 years prior to joining The First Tee, he taught student Bible studies, lead married couples’ studies as well as biblical counseling at his church. He believes that the life skills education and teaching biblical studies parallel each other, which is why he loves coaching golf.

During his time with The First Tee, Angel helped develop the NSP  and DRIVE programs, which introduced the game of golf to public schools in the area, Parks and Recreation, Boys & Girls clubs, church youth sports programs, the YMCA, Boy Scouts, and other related youth programs. He also took on the role of DRIVE trainer, a program that “Develops Rewarding, Inspiring Values for Everyone” through the game of golf. Angel’s coaching philosophy is to consider the end from the beginning before making a choice. He stresses the importance of considering all the obstacles in the way of making par or better, and then minimizing the risks through proper choices along the way. He is a true believer in course management. In 2014, Angel took on the role of Assistant Golf Coach at Maranatha High School in Pasadena, CA. There he helped aid the team to three league championships in four seasons and assisted two of those students into first-round CIF sectionals. He and Maranatha’s Head Coach also teamed up to begin developing the golf program for Providence Christian College in Pasadena, CA.

Now, God’s hand of providence has brought Angel to Life Pacific College, where he has set his sights on growing the golf program and believes he will develop a winning program. He is looking forward to helping develop students of character that will place Christ first in all their choices; considering first the end result to ensure the best outcome.

Angel has a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Phoenix, and a Master's degree in Theology from Liberty Baptist University. He also holds a Library Technology Certification, which he believes helped to ingrain his belief in an analytical approach to course management.

Angel and his wife of nearly 30 years, ToniAnn, have three daughters. Their eldest, Sarah, is earning her MFT from Hope International University. Daughter Rachel earned her Bachelor's degree in Math from Azusa Pacific University, and their youngest daughter, Rebekah, is a senior at Glendora High School.
