Students “Share the Love” on Love-A-Donor Day

By: Melissa (Hayashi, ’12) Rufener

It was a clear and beautiful morning on February 14, 2017, and as lovers, friends and family everywhere prepared for the romance and heart of the holiday, the Office of Advancement and Alumni Relations prepared to “love on” Life Pacific’s donors, on our first-ever Love-A-Donor day!

Banners were hung on every building directly funded by a donor, which included six of the seven buildings on the main campus. Smaller hearts were posted in different areas around campus that have been funded in some way by donors – in the Library, the Café, classrooms and in the chapel, blue and gold hearts reminded the LPC community of the impact of our donors. The main event occurred outside in the courtyard: A long chalkboard wall to write short notes for a time-lapse video, a length of tables stretched across the courtyard, covered with blank thank-you cards bearing the faces of some of our awesome students, and a “drop-off” station where we surprised grateful students with a Krispy Kreme donut in thanks for their participation.

If you received a thank you note from a student and it brightened your day, let us know by emailing advancement@lifepacific.edu, and check out more pictures from the event on Facebook or by searching #LPCloveadonor!

Being behind the scenes of all the planning of the event, we initially weren’t sure the response we would receive from the student body, since we were asking them to spend valuable minutes on their way to class, work, or other obligations, to stop and write a heartfelt note to a complete stranger. But the response we received was beyond our expectations! Not only did students flock to our tables to fill out notes to donors, but as space around tables filled up, several even waited patiently to get their card and a pen so they too could “Love A Donor.” Students from every program and every LPC sport team stopped to share their gratefulness with a donor. Though the two may never meet in person, each student and donor now share a connection, illustrated to us on this day in hearts of gold and blue. Life Pacific College is grateful for her donors!
