Announcement Presidential Selection

From Sam Rockwell, Ph.D., Chairman of the Board of Trustees

Dear Friends,

I am pleased to share the good news with you that Dr. Jim J. Adams has accepted the invitation by the Board of Trustees to serve as the tenth president of Life Pacific College effective July 1, 2013. Following a thorough selection process, the Board of Trustees made the unanimous decision on Friday, May 10, and offered the presidency to Dr. Adams. Jim succeeds Dr. Robert Flores, who announced his resignation from the Life Pacific College presidency as of December 31, 2012.

Jim J. Adams is uniquely prepared and qualified to be our president. His long history of ministry and relationship in The Foursquare Church, his outstanding career in higher education, and his passionate vision and love for LPC qualify him to lead us at this time. Jim exhibits both sensitivity to people and attentiveness to the task. Jim “fits the bill” as someone who can bring together a multifaceted vision for our college – bridging diverse audiences represented by church leaders, the academy, alumni, and the greater Foursquare community of students, parents, donors, and spiritual stakeholders.

Furthermore, he is known for his exceptional collaborative leadership and personal qualities serving in his most recent roles as Interim President of Life Pacific College and Executive Director for the Center of Global Learning & Engagement at Azusa Pacific University.

Jim recalls first being called to serve at Life Pacific College, “In 1995 the Lord spoke clearly to Lori and me about leaving our comfort zone, and moving back to Southern California for the Dean of Students position. All these years later, we again sensed a clear call to leave the comfort zone to return to my alma mater for service at this time.” He continues, “It is deeply humbling to have the opportunity to lead, and I am grateful for the many friends, alum, staff, faculty, students, donors, and trustees who have prayed diligently over the past four months for the college.”

With a B.A. from Life Pacific College (LIFE Bible College) and an M.A. from Azusa Pacific University, Jim earned his Doctorate of Education from the University of Southern California. He served as Vice President, Chief Operating Officer, and Dean of Students at Life Pacific College, Superintendent and Chief Executive Officer for Western Christian Schools, and Professor and Program Director of Operation Impact at Azusa Pacific University.

Jim has published numerous book chapters and professional articles on higher education, organizational leadership, women in ministry, teaching, and learning. He continues to teach both undergraduate and graduate courses including Organizational Management and Decision Making, Organization Behavior and Group Dynamics, Cornerstones of Christian Leadership Across Cultures, Research and Assessment Tools for Leaders, Transformational Leadership, Vocation in a Changing World, and many more. He also currently serves as an assisting minister at Pomona North Foursquare Church, is a member of the International Doctrine and Licensing Committee, and is a certified Disaster Relief Chaplain (FEMA).

Prayers are encouraged for Life Pacific College and for Jim in his new role as president. He affirms, “We have much work to do with strategically aligning our college for long-term stability. However, the most important role we play is to serve our students well. I am committed to doing everything possible to serve The Foursquare Church and the kingdom of God as we launch new programs and strengthen those currently in place. With much prayer from our partners around the world, LPC is poised toward a great future of carrying out its mission of ministry education and equipping.”

Join me in celebrating Jim’s new appointment. I am grateful for you and deeply value your partnership as we work together to fulfill God’s mission for Life Pacific College.

In Christ,

Exciting News

The faculty at Life Pacific College continues to develop ways for our students to receive an education relevant to their ministry interests. As a result, beginning in the 2013-2014 academic year LPC will offer five concentrations from which students may choose as they complete their B.A. in Biblical Studies or B.A. in Transformational Ministry.
