Overview

The Master of Divinity is LPU’s premiere professional degree for pastoral ministry and chaplaincy. It is a comprehensive program of study that prepares those called to full-time vocational ministry for effective Christ-centered leadership in the midst of a rapidly changing world. This degree offers the acquisition and integration of knowledge and skills in the areas of biblical studies, theology, spiritual development, intercultural awareness, and practical ministry for the purpose of relevant application in respective ministry settings.

The M.Div. is also widely recognized as the prerequisite degree for Doctor of Ministry programs. 

Format & Schedule

The 72-unit curriculum of the Master of Divinity consists of a series of twenty courses which build upon each other to achieve the program goals. The first 44 units comprise the MATS core curriculum minus the Theological Capstone. The final 28 units are weighted toward the acquisition and refinement of practical ministry skills and competencies. The second and eighth courses run for five weeks and include a one-week residency. 

Program Goals

Graduates of the Online M.Div program will be able to: 

+ Biblical Scholarship
Critically interpret Scripture to develop theological conclusions that enlist the supporting sources of tradition, reason, experience and community.

+ Theological Research
Produce graduate-level theological research by utilizing critical research and information literacy skills.

+ Spiritual Formation
Conduct themselves with Christian maturity, demonstrating submission to and empowerment by the Holy Spirit

+ Effective Communication
Construct teaching plans, curriculum, and public presentations for communicating biblical and theological truth in various settings.

+ Pastoral Care
Provide Spirit-led, theologically-informed, interculturally-sensitive pastoral care and wise ethical guidance to individuals and communities.

+ Congregational Leadership
Plan, lead, and evaluate with cultural awareness, activities that involve others in working toward shared goals and opportunities for faithful ministry and mission.

Life Pacific University is accredited by the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC), and through the Association for biblical Education (ABHE).

This indicates the standard duration of this program. Completion time may vary depending on transferred coursework and preferred courseload.

The MDiv program prepares men and women to serve and lead in a variety of ministry roles such as pastors, missionaries, church planters, chaplains, and parachurch ministry staff. The degree is also for those seeking positions that require ordination or for those who plan to go on to doctoral-level studies.  Career options include professions such as:

    Application Deadline

    Completed applications (including transcripts and supporting documents) are due by November 15th for January cohort enrollment and May 15th for July cohort enrollment. Admissions decisions on completed applications are made within approximately two weeks.
