FAFSA Opening: Act Now for Your Future 

The 2026–2027 FAFSA officially opened on September 24, 2025. This gives students the opportunity to apply early and take full advantage of grants, scholarships, and aid.  

FSA ID: Your Key to Financial Aid 

Before you begin the FAFSA, make sure you and your parents (regardless of Social Security number status) have an FSA ID. This ID is required to start the FAFSA process and access all available aid.

Understanding the Student Aid Index (SAI) 

Once submitted, you’ll receive a Student Aid Index (SAI). This number determines your eligibility for financial aid. For students with separated parents, FAFSA now uses the income of the parent who provides the most financial support.

  • Consent Required: All contributors must provide consent for the DDX process using 2024 tax information. 
  • California Residents: The Cal Grant deadline is March 2, 2026, and requires both your FAFSA and Cal Grant GPA Verification.
