University, California

Life Pacific University recognizes the generosity of the Hugh and Hazel Darling Foundation, which bestowed upon LPU a grant of $175,000 to fund Phase 2 of the LPU Alumni Library renovation Project. Phase Two of the library renovation builds on the success of the recently completed second-floor upgrades, which introduced new meeting rooms, a modernized design, and improved seating arrangements.

LPU also extends gratitude to Darling Foundation trustee Richard Stack for his partnership throughout the grant proposal submission process.

President Angie Richey says, “We are grateful for the Darling Foundation’s generous investment in enhancing LPU’s library. Librarian Joshua Ortega is actively preparing to transform the library’s first floor, including consolidating books with new storage stacks, adding seating, and beautifying the space.” The project will focus on enhancing the first floor, further transforming the library into a vibrant hub for learning, collaboration, and community.

Details about the renovation include:

  • Helping modernize and open up our main floors to put an emphasis on providing a larger study space for our students.
  • Project consists of:
    • Replacing the front desk with refurbished front area
    • Removing all stacks and replacing it with a track based system on the first floor.
    • Moving reference materials up stairs.
    • Reorganizing space to create more collaborative study areas.

President Richey explains, “These upgrades will enrich the student experience, foster collaborative learning, and create a more inviting environment for all supporting student transformation.”

Phase 2 renovations will be underway throughout the 2025 calendar year.
