Coral Huson ’16 and her husband, Rodney, have served as missionaries in Brazil since 2000. For three generations, their family has devoted itself to transforming lives. Their mission is simple and powerful: share the Good News of Jesus wherever God opens doors.
Before moving to the mission field, Coral earned her Associate degree in Arts and Sciences from Shoreline Community College and then attended Seattle Bible College for nearly two years. She and her husband served in ministry for over 20 years, which would prepare them to eventually be called into full-time missions in Brazil.
Her long-standing dream to complete her degree came to life through a season of hardship. In 2014, Coral and Rodney’s daughter, Jenna, was diagnosed with a brain tumor shortly after giving birth. Despite any medical diagnosis that would tell her otherwise, Jenna declared that she would one day run a marathon. Her unshaken faith and determination to recover were the spark that reignited Coral’s action toward returning to school. With loving encouragement from her family and a little advice from her son and daughter-in-law (Tyler ’11 and Sara Huson ’14), she enrolled in Life Pacific University’s Degree Completion Program for Ministry and Leadership and hasn’t looked back. “My only regret,” she reflects, “is that I didn’t know about the program sooner!”
Coral identifies one of the most valuable lessons she learned at LPU: how to fully research Scripture. This continues to shape her teaching and ministry today. Her time at LPU equipped her with the tools she has needed for life since she walked the stage at LPU’s 2016 Commencement, where Coral was honored with the Delta Epsilon Chi Honor Society Award. She has been challenged to embrace her unique calling, to minister authentically, and to approach both cultural differences and conflict with wisdom and humility. The encouragement of professors and her cohort strengthened her as a leader, a listener, and a lifelong student of God’s Word.

Today, Coral and Rodney focus their ministry on equipping leaders across Brazil. Rodney helps oversee a main church with 20 satellite congregations, and together they regularly teach, preach, and encourage leaders across these people groups. They have also been invited to serve in indigenous communities in Northern Brazil. Here, they have partnered in the building of eight churches, supplying these communities with not only places of worship, but also with access to lights, electricity, and even running water for the first time in some villages. In addition, they provide free basic eye exams and eyeglasses, meeting the spiritual and physical needs of those they faithfully serve.
Through it all, their greatest passion and joy is seeing lives transformed by the love of God. As Coral puts it, “Our most important goal is that each person would know the love of God, become His child, and take part in building the kingdom of God.”
