Eden McKay’s journey at Life Pacific University (LPU) is a powerful testament to both academic and personal growth. As she reflects on her time at LPU, Eden recalls the significant lessons she learned, the milestones she achieved, and how the experiences shaped her faith and future.
Eden describes the transformative experience at LPU, where both her academic and personal lives were enriched. She explains, “Academically, I learned to push myself in a way that I didn’t learn in past college experiences. Because all the classes at LPU are biblically founded and sound, I learned so much about the Word of God and how to incorporate Him in every part of my life, even in academics.” This approach to education, rooted in biblical teachings, helped Eden integrate her faith deeply into her studies, making her college experience not just about earning a degree, but about growing spiritually and intellectually.
On a personal level, Eden faced some challenging lessons. She shares, “Personally, I learned so much of what humility and obedience to the Lord looks like. I came into the school with a lot of pride I didn’t even know I had. The Lord was so gracious to gently point this out to me and humble me and is still working on me!” This process of growth and humility was central to her experience, allowing her to develop a deeper understanding of obedience to God’s plan, even when it didn’t match her expectations.
Eden has much to be proud of in her time at LPU, including a remarkable academic feat. “I am graduating with a bachelor’s and associate degree at 19 years old!” she proudly shares. But beyond her academic achievements, Eden also found fulfillment in her creative pursuits. As part of the LPU chapel teams and the Worship Arts and Media (WAM) program, Eden had the opportunity to write and produce songs, further fueling her passion for music and ministry.
Her journey wasn’t just about personal accomplishments; it was deeply rooted in spiritual growth as well. Eden’s favorite Bible verse, Isaiah 43:1-4, was a constant reminder of God’s faithfulness during challenging times. “He also showed me that I relied a lot on myself and tried to do things in my own strength instead of running to Him and trusting Him,” she reflects. This verse, and the lessons it imparted, were pivotal in shaping her relationship with the Lord.
As she prepares for the next chapter, Eden’s experiences at LPU have solidified her future plans. She explains, “My future plans are to work at a church and in ministry through worship, media, teaching, and other areas!” Through her time at LPU, Eden has gained direction and a clearer sense of purpose in serving the Lord. Though she was called to be a worship leader, LPU has expanded her ministry horizons, allowing her to explore different areas of service and teaching.
Her growth can also be attributed to the strong influence of her family. “I am so thankful to both of my parents and my family for encouraging me and praying for me while I was away from them,”she shares. Eden’s mother pushed her to excel academically, while her father provided spiritual guidance. Additionally, her four brothers taught her valuable lessons about strength and resilience, shaping her into the person she is today.
Perhaps the thing Eden will miss most about her time at LPU is the community. “The faculty and staff, and all my friends that pushed me to the Lord and brought me so much joy,” she says. She is especially grateful for the chapel teams, whom she considers her “brothers and sisters.” The community at LPU, full of support and encouragement, played an essential role in her spiritual and personal development.
Eden’s advice to incoming students is simple but profound: “Don’t be afraid of what the Lord has for you! Take the opportunities He brings you and put yourself out there to be used.” She emphasizes the importance of building a supportive community and finding one’s identity in Christ. “Be confident in who you are in Christ, because if you try to find your identity in the world, what others say about you, your strength or beauty, or your success, you will be empty, anxious, and wanting.”
Eden’s time at LPU has shaped her not just as a student, but as a servant of God, preparing her for a future full of purpose and passion. Her journey is a reminder of the importance of embracing humility, leaning on God’s strength, and taking full advantage of the opportunities that come our way.
