Home E News E Graduate Starts a Legacy of Ministry and Faith

University, California

As Ray Furr prepares to walk across the stage as a Life Pacific University graduate, he reflects not only on the academic achievements he’s earned but also on the spiritual and personal transformation that has shaped his calling. Ray’s journey is one marked by deep faith, lasting relationships, and a bold vision for the future.

“I am most proud of being the first one in my family to pursue a degree in ministry,” Ray shares. With this milestone, he’s launching a new spiritual legacy in his family — a generational heritage of ministry rooted in dependence on God and a deep hunger for His Word. “I have seen the intensity of my faith grow with my hunger for the Lord.”

Academically, Ray has gained the tools of a lifelong learner: researching with scholarly databases, evaluating sources, and staying committed to growth. But his most important lessons came outside the classroom.

Personally, I have learned how to manage my time and balance my personal, spiritual, and academic life,” he says. His experience at LPU helped him cultivate adaptability, teamwork, and the courage to form meaningful connections.

For Ray, one Bible verse has anchored him through it all: “Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes” (Ephesians 6:11). It has served as a decade-long reminder that true strength comes not from self-reliance but from God’s provision and protection.

Ray’s time at LPU has not only affirmed his calling but also clarified his next steps. “I am confident that I will pastor after LPU when the Lord permits me to do so,” he says, pointing to the conviction behind 1 Thessalonians 2:4: “We speak as those approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel.” In the future, he also hopes to pursue a master’s degree and eventually become a teacher who empowers the next generation.

When asked what impacted him the most at LPU, Ray doesn’t hesitate: “The community has hands down been the biggest impact on my growth.” Having transferred from a previous college where he felt like “just a number,” Ray found that LPU intentionally invested in his personal and spiritual development. “Whether someone’s degree is used or not does not matter at LPU because your life will be changed through the transformation of students into leaders in the workplace, the church, and the world.”

As he leaves this chapter behind, Ray knows what he’ll miss most: the people. The community has poured into me immeasurably and changed my life forever,” he says. “I take heart knowing that there will always be a place for me at LPU.”

His advice for incoming students? It’s grounded in Scripture and overflowing with encouragement: “You are the example. You show the world how to live in the way that we talk, the way that we act, and most of all how to love in the faith with purity. You can do more than you think!”

With a life marked by faith, leadership, and humble beginnings, Ray Furr is ready to go wherever God sends him — armored in truth, fueled by community, and deeply rooted in Christ.
