Current LPU students, Kylie Casino and Christian Diaz-Neufischer, interned with the Church of Living Water alongside LPU alumna, Ilyssa Shields (’23). The Church of Living Water is a three-campus church with the Olympia campus being pastored by LPU alum Pastor Jon Cobler (’06) and the Yelm campus pastored by Pastor Bob Horn (’19). Current members of the LPU student body being mentored by and serving in ministry with LPU alumni brings joy to the community.
While in Washington, Christian and Kylie were invested in personally by the leadership at the Church of Living Water, while also being able to serve the Church itself and its congregants. They each served in different facets of ministry, from youth, to children, to outreach, and more.
Christian shares about his time interning this summer, Â “The Living Water summer internship was dedicated to growing us as leaders and gospel ministers through one-on-one mentoring, coaching, and spiritual development/direction, as well as walking us through the Emotionally Healthy Spirituality series. Our intern directors Pastors Bob Horn and Rochelle Wilson, along with the rest of the Living Water leadership team have been instrumental in developing us into the people of God we have become during this internship. Living Water has been such a game changer, and I am so grateful to have spent my summer with them”.
Kylie says, “This summer I interned at Church of Living Water in Washington State. I got the opportunity to experience ministry on three different campuses and in many different capacities. Church of Living Water has given me a new understanding of what healthy ministry can look like. Living Water staff took the time to invest in their interns through moments of prayer, giving encouragement, intentional check-ups, and providing tools like Emotionally Healthy Spirituality, and weekly mentoring, spiritual direction, and coaching sessions. The areas of ministry I served in were Youth, Children’s Ministry, Outreach Ministry, Street Church, and Prayer Ministry. I got to experience ministry here in Washington in new ways and I got to be the hands and feet of Jesus. Not only was the staff intentional, but people who attend Church of Living Water actually took the time to invite us into their homes and make us feel welcomed as well. Living Water models who Jesus is, and models him well. I am so grateful that I gave my, “yes”, to God because He placed me exactly where He knew I needed to be”.
LPU is always humbled and encouraged to see our students serving God in the Church, the workplace, and the world!
