Home E News E Nearly one year later – An update on the Aimee Semple McPherson Digital Media Studios

University, California

It was less than one year ago when LPU received major gifts from friends and alumni who helped launch the Aimee Semple McPherson Digital Media Studios. To date, more than $730,000 has been raised to help launch the Digital Media Studios and train a new generation of students who are telling stories of transformation; students like Jessica Acosta (Mass Communications ’22). Watch her story here.

Here’s a glimpse into the work that has been accomplished in the first year of the Digital Media Studio System (DMSS):

  • Built and Opened the Carol Shelton Digital Media Studio
-Mid-sized sound stage, editing bays, lighting and audio gear, backdrops, film screen capabilities and open to all students
  • Remodeled and Opened the LPU Computer Lab
12 computers with Adobe Creative Cloud and Apple ProApps for students of any major
  • Upgraded LPU Chapel Studio
LED Wall, multicam broadcast system, LED Source4 lighting upgrade
  • Established the Digital Media Advisory Committee and developing ongoing partnerships
Film and visual media influencers, production companies and film forums, local school districts, Foursquare and local church media leaders
  • Launched Multimedia Opportunities for students
LifeLine student journalism site, LPU digital courses for certificate programs, Studio 23 for the production of music videos and short films, LPU Chapel Media including live Chapel streams, Foursquare Leader + Education Forum, Little Women the Musical livestream, and WAM live album taping

In fact, the growth rate has been exponentially faster than anticipated so a new part-time videographer position has been created to support the staff, faculty, and students learning and creating within the Studio System. This new part-time position will be funded in its entirety for three years through the generosity of a donor.

And all of this is just the beginning! Plans will soon be announced for Phase 2 of the studio build that will extend the reach of the DMSS and LPU students into Hollywood, across the country, and even into the metaverse! The Gospel continues to be shared in bold new ways, and LPU students will be on the front lines leading the charge wherever the Spirit guides.
