Jonathan maravilla headshotLife Pacific University Worship Arts and Media alum, Jonathan Maravilla, spent his summer interning with Jesus Culture, a well-known and highly respected worship ministry. While serving in this internship, Jonathan had the opportunity to record live drums with Bryan and Katie Torwalt, and Derek Johnson, all of whom are huge names in the worship space.

Jonathan shares, “This was one of the best summers ever. The amount of hands-on experience developed, the amount of wisdom I took, and the healing I received made every moment worth it. The biggest takeaway from all of it was operating from a place of sonship where it has nothing to do with your gifting but your humility and identity in the lord. Before any opportunity or door, I was already seen and accepted as a son. These doors or opportunities don’t secure or validate my identity rather these are offerings I get to present to God”.

As part of the degree completion requirements at LPU, every student must complete an internship within their major and desired career path. Jonathan’s passion and calling is to pursue worship pastoring, so getting the opportunity to grow and develop his leadership with such a substantial worship ministry is exciting.

Dr. Steven Felix-Jager, the Chair of the Worship Arts and Media program, says “Part of the Worship Arts & Media program is to allow students to do worship internships in and around their field. This past summer WAM student Jonathan Maravilla was able to do his internship with Jesus Culture where he got to do all sorts of ministry including recording some videos with them for Capitol Records. Jonathan is a great worship leader, but as you can see in the video, also a talented drummer.”

This internship was a tremendous opportunity for Jonathan, and Life Pacific is always thrilled to hear how students are going on to make a difference in the Church, the workplace, and the world.
