Life Pacific University has named worship leader, recording artist and songwriter David Ryan Cook as Worship Pastor and Songwriter in Residence, effective August 1, 2026.

In this role, Cook will provide visionary leadership, spiritual mentorship, and creative direction for LPU Worship, a co-curricular group that invites students to develop real-world skills while being discipled in worship expression. He will also help to cultivate a vibrant, Christ-centered and Spirit-filled worship culture reflective of the University’s heritage that includes LPU Worship songwriting retreats, original music projects, and future recordings that express the spiritual identity and mission of the University.

“David brings an exceptional combination of spiritual depth, creative excellence, ministry experience, and a proven track record in developing the next generation,” said Dr. Angie Richey, President of Life Pacific University. “We are honored to welcome David and his family into the LPU community.”

Born and raised in Florida, David is an alumnus of Southeastern University. After His time at SEU, David spent time in Nashville as a recording artist, and he then joined the staff as a worship pastor at the city campus of Hillsong Church based in Sydney, Australia.

In 2016, David and his wife, Corina, relocated back to the states where they began to lead SEU Worship into its current sound and season. With his background and many different experiences in the ministry context, David leads with a unique prophetic edge.

Now based in Orange County, California, David and his family serve on staff as the worship pastor at Oceans Church. Whilst building Oceans Music and enjoying the humidity free climate of So-Cal, David still writes and produces for many churches and artists across the world.

“One of the first things we noticed about David was that his heart for worship is contagious. His love for Jesus, passion for developing people, and commitment to Spirit-led worship makes him an incredible addition to the LPU family,” said Dr. George Bostanic, COO and VP of Student Life. “We believe his leadership will strengthen LPU worship’s culture that shapes students spiritually and creatively, preparing them to impact the Church, workplace, and the world.”

“I am so excited to be able to serve and work alongside the great students and staff and faculty of LPU! This university has a rich history of revival roots and it’s a true honor to help develop the next generation of worshippers and songwriters in this era of its story. Every move of God has a soundtrack, and the best is yet to come for what’s happening at LPU!”

As Worship Pastor and Songwriter in Residence, Cook will collaborate with LPU’s campus pastor, Student Life team, Worship Arts and Media faculty, and University leadership to strengthen chapel services, student-led worship, spiritual formation experiences, systems, and production excellence. He will also support the continued growth of LPU’s Worship Arts and Media degree program.

Cook’s appointment strengthens Life Pacific University’s investment in developing the next generation of worship leaders, songwriters and creative ministry professionals. Through LPU Worship and the University’s B.A. in Worship Arts and Media, students gain opportunities to integrate biblical formation, worship leadership, songwriting, music, media and hands-on ministry experience.
