Life Pacific University is pleased to announce the appointment of Luis Areyzaga as Interim Chair of its upcoming Bachelor of Science in Health Science program. Areyzaga brings experience in higher education, exercise physiology, and academic leadership to help prepare students for careers that connect scientific knowledge with compassionate service. 

“We welcome Prof. Areyzaga to the faculty team and are excited for this new opportunity for prospective students at LPU. He is the right candidate for this role, and we are blessed to have him join our team,” said Dr. Daniel Ruarte, Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs.

His teaching experience includes roles at Azusa Pacific University, Stanton University, and California Baptist University. He has also served as Regional Director of Education at Success Education Colleges. His health experience includes work as an exercise physiologist and personal trainer at UCI Medical Center and as an exercise physiologist at Select Physical Therapy. He is finalizing a Ph.D. in Health and Human Performance (ABD) at Concordia University Chicago, holds a Master of Science in Kinesiology from California Baptist University and a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from Azusa Pacific University.  

“Professor Areyzaga provides LPU with a wealth of clinical experience and a passion for teaching in the science disciplines. His work in education and desire to prepare the next generation of health clinicians makes him a perfect fit to be the founding chair of LPU’s first Science program!” said Carissa Hawksworth, Ph.D., Assistant Provost and Dean of Arts and Sciences. 

The upcoming program will expand LPU’s academic offerings and create a new pathway for students seeking to pursue health science careers within a Christ-centered learning community. 

“I am deeply honored to serve as the Program Chair for the Department of Health Sciences. In this role, I look forward to supporting our dedicated faculty and equipping our students with the scientific knowledge and practical skills needed to excel in health science careers. Rooted in our Christian faith and values, our program remains committed to preparing servant leaders who are driven to make a meaningful, healing impact in the communities they serve,” said Areyzaga. 

His appointment supports LPU’s mission to prepare leaders for service in the Church, the workplace, and the world, extending that commitment into the health sciences. 

LPU’s upcoming Bachelor of Science in Health Science program, launching in Fall 2027, will combine scientific learning with a Christ-centered commitment to service, preparing students to pursue opportunities in health sciences and make a meaningful impact in their communities. The BS in Health Sciences is a rigorous, lab-focused, hands-on curriculum designed to prepare students for roles in medicine, medical research, and public health. Often described as preparation for pre-clinical professions, the program develops the scientific foundation and professional readiness students need for health-related service and future graduate education. Developing Christ-centered and Spirit-filled professionals to serve, heal, and lead with care.
